Fish and Wildlife and Lacey Act Update

Fish and Wildlife
At Flegenheimer International we are always trying to improve our communication with Importers and other Government agencies. As we mentioned in previous news-blasts, Fish and Wildlife has expanded the list of items they regulate. When we present information to them we must provide them with scientific names for each item required. We are asking that our importers request for the exporter/shipper to provide the scientific names for each item on the invoice.

Lacey Act
Under the amendments to the Lacey Act that was included in the 2008 Farm Bill, imports of certain plants and plant products must be accompanied by an import declaration that contains, among other things, the scientific name of the plant, the value of the importation, the quantity of the plant and the name of the country from where the plant was harvested. For paper and paperboard products containing recycled content, the declaration also must include the average percent of recycled content without regard for species or country of harvest.

Our customers are the first to get on board with new Customs regulations and rules. Some of you have already been providing Lacy Act documentation, but now that the Lacy Act is in effect we have been seeing some importers who through no fault of their own are not really clear about the changes.
